So what's this all about then?

This is me. . .

On the Right. Obviously

I'm Irish but have lived in London, Uganda and Oman, where I'm currently based.

I have a BA in Human Rights, History and Politics from the Irish Centre for Human Rights, National University of Ireland, Galway. I have worked for NGOs on women's rights issues in East Africa and issues relating to mass atrocities in London. I'm a Special Correspondent (Women & Conflict) for A Safe World for Women and a contributor to the Women Under Siege Project.  I have also written for the Irish Times, Open Democracy and others.

On a mass atrocity and memorialisation research trip to Rwanda for Justice Africa/African Union

I've long been obsessed by mass atrocities- preventing them, responding to them- and in the last two years I've begun to focus on the use of rape and sexual violence in conflict and mass atrocities. I'm also interested in how journalism, activism and politics intersect and how much can be achieved on certain issues by combining certain elements of all three.

I blog about anything remotely connected to aid, development and human rights but predominant topics will be mass atrocities and issues surrounding women and conflict. Women's rights in general interest me, but particularly in Ireland and Sudan (to see why, read more of the blog!).

I also write for The Kentishtowner, North London's only daily magazine.

Random things about me:

I'm bit of a news junkie and I spend far too much time on Twitter. For a 23 year old, I'm extremely tech-illiterate. I drink too much coffee, buy more books than I could ever hope to read and have an obsession with large Sunday newspapers. I speak a little Russian, extremely poor French and my Arabic vocabulary consists mostly of swear words. Equally at home in the West of Ireland or Northwest London, I've become quite fond of my current home Muscat but I hope to make it back to East Africa very soon- in particular to this lovely boat on Lake Kivu, Rwanda.

Please do comment on the blog or get in touch on Twitter. But only if you have nice things to say:)
